Outreachy Week 4 Progress

These last couple of weeks have been ones of some struggle. It’s fitting that one of the blog post assignments was to write about a moment or moments of struggle. I feel like I’ve been playing catch up on what’s going on and how things work for the bulk of my time. The technology stack seemed daunting at first but when I went about learning about the components piece by piece it became more manageable.

I’ve been happy to learn to write cucumber tests. In the process of learning how the api works and how to write api tests I’ve also been finding bugs, which is exciting to me :). I’m assuming the next skill to learn/think about is how these things are triage and prioritized, especially for my role in them since it’s already week 4 out of 12!

I’m also feeling grateful for the time to learn and use software like git which I know I’ll probably keep coming across and is useful for my own projects or collaborating with others. I’m glad that I’m getting the opportunity to test out those skills (and mistakes!) on such an important project. So far I’ve encountered helpful comments when I do make errors as well as suggestions to do things in more standard ways.
