Final Report

I feel both that I’ve come a long way and yet not far enough. I know that I probably wont get all my goals met but hope that even after the internship ends that I’ll be able to tie up any loose ends and of course continue to work on my skills. It’s been a great growing experience to challenge myself in this way. For years I thought about applying but I always felt too intimidated. To have gone through this whole process has helped me see that these things are do-able and more importantly worth doing.

Another aspect of learning was the tools used for workflow. Some software I found useful is theLounge which keeps me logged to IRC 24/7 (or at least as long as my server is running ;) I also liked using ungit to visualize the branches. I’m currently using Brackets as my IDE, but have not been 100% satisfied with this solution as I kept running into installation errors with extensions. Zulip was also pretty cool software and seems like a viable alternative to Slack.

My future goals include learning more about how the infrastructure works and setting up infrastructure on my end as practice (as I did with theLounge). I well as deepening my technical/coding knowledge. One part of the process I wish I engaged with more was community. I feel like those skills still could use some work but am sure that with time it will get easier to engage.

I really want to thank my mentor for being there for me through this process. She was very responsive and helpful. I also want to thank the wider community for reaching out and continuing to work with me as I learn and create some useful code!
