Passed the A+ exam without too much troubles ^_^. I was pleased to know it wasn’t only multiple choice because putting together networks and more ‘real world’ experience is of interest to me. On the 901 exam they had a simulated scenario where I was asked to make an RJ45 (ethernet), BNC, and RJ11 (telephone) cable and then use those cables to hook up a home network. On the 902 exam they had me setup pop3 email on an android phone and simulated some troubleshooting exercises on Windows.

I think the value in the test for me was getting more familiar with the jargon and filling in any missing gaps in my knowledge. For the most part I had come across all the computer parts mentioned and have installed and configured systems beforehand, but having a chance to relearn and test new configurations for my stack of old PC’s was a great learning experience.
